Northwest Ohio Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association receives $10,000 grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation for “Let’s Go Raptors!”Toledo, Ohio The Northwest Ohio Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NWONSCIA) is proud to announce that it has received a ($10,000) Opportunity Grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation (CHNF). NWONSCIA will use the grant to help fund their wheelchair team, the Toledo Raptors, attend the Southeastern Wheelchair Games in North Myrtle Beach, SC in April 2008, the Michigan Wheelchair Games in Sterling Heights, MI in May and the Ohio Wheelchair Games in Columbus, OH May 2008. THE CHNF grant will help pay for traveling and lodging expenses for the athletes, coaches and aides. Without financial support such as this grant, the Toledo Raptors’ athletes would be unable to attend any wheelchair games to pursue the gold and challenge themselves to do personal bests. NWONSCIA is extremely honored to receive and tremendously thankful for the grant from the CHNF. The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is dedicated to supporting research and innovative rehabilitation programs to Established in 2003, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is dedicated to supporting basic and clinical research aimed at developing cures for (SCI). Two types of grants are offered: Research Grants and Opportunity Grants.. The “Let’s Go Toledo Raptors!” grant was awarded as a Sports and Recreation Opportunity Program Grant aimed to help improve the quality of lives of people living with a SCI. About The Craig H. Together we provide emotional support for families and friends, as well as promoting community awareness and the prevention of spinal cord injuries.” One of our main objectives is to let people know that, “When a SCI or disease suddenly enters your life...or someone you love...it doesn’t have to mean the end of the world…” Being awarded this $10,000 grant will enable our athletes to talk with new members and newly injured SCI patients about participating in the wheelchair games. The funding will also allow the athletes to attend three wheelchair games and pursue the gold in such events as air rifle, swimming, track and field, and weightlifting.
