CEP MissionThe Northwest Ohio Chapter of the NSCIA is committed to bring computer technology to those with disabilities that do not qualify for services from BVR (Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation) or similar resources. Computers can and do open up an entire new world for the disabled as well as providing opportunity to learn new skills that could allow a disabled person to return to work. Computer Exchange ProgramThe Computer Exchange Program was started to help those members that could benefit from the use of a computer but did not qualify for assistance through any of the agencies that work with the disabled to get them back to what is considered "gainful employment". NWONSCIA takes older, donated computers and modifies them as needed to fit an individual's needs. If possible, everything including a working printer and set of speakers is provided. If printers or speakers are not available at the time a computer is ready, the member is responsible for getting those items. Our CEP (Computer Exchange Program) coordinator will help in finding the right printer and speakers, they have become inexpensive enough that an individual can afford to purchase them on their own. Most computers are donated by people or businesses that are upgrading their computers and are looking for a way to get rid of their old computer(s) without just throwing them out. A receipt for tax purposes is provided to person(s) donating computers. NWONSCIA has been recipient of grants in the past which has allowed us to implement an incentive program providing for members to receive an upgraded, if not new, computer system if the computer is used for NWONSCIA purposes or the member can demonstrate need for a more powerful system. Grant funds are limited and may or may not be available at any given time. Members interested in learning more about the CEP can contact Hank Barney. He can provide you with information on applying for a computer through the NWONSCIA CEP. Individuals or businesses interested in donating computers for this program are asked to complete our contact form providing details on the equipment available.
